Homebrew Studio - Flavored Vodka

So tonight I get this great idea to make a little studio out of a cardboard box. I cut out the sides and used some tissue-paper and home-depot style work lights and create a bunch of images like this. It was a boat-load of fun, but if I had to do it again, I would work a little harder at making it perfect. And thats not water in those glasses, it's real Vodka. My wife was upset because I used the entire new bottle. I tried water, but it just didn't wrap around the objects and the glass like the Vodka did. No worries, it had been in the cabinet for ever.

Dad & Son

Today I have been struggling with a cold, well really, most of this week, but today I spent the day home trying to get over this thing. This evening my Son was looking for something to do and dragged my rear-end off the couch and we grabbed our cameras and headed for the desert. We got there later then we would have liked, but we still had a blast photographing the sunset and playing with long exposure times in the dark. Here are a couple of shots from last night.

A little "Flight Time"

Headed up the mountain today just to get out of the house and saw these guys doing a little flying. Stopped and watched for a while. One of the first things I noticed was just how quite it was - no noise.....beautiful. Well, it was beautiful until one guy hit a tree; thats another story for another day.

Bridge to nowhere....

I found this really cool bridge that goes nowhere. It's only accessible by foot and I only had enough time for a couple of quick shots. This is a place to go back and explore.

Finally - Picked up my camera again!

It's been awhile, I know! My camera had dust on it - shame, shame, shame. The new job is keeping me busy, but I should have my head wrapped around it soon. Anyway, drove to the beach for a walk the other night. Why does the ocean smell so good?

I really have a Black & White thing going for some reason. I love the texture and rich blacks and it's just fun to switch it up every now and then...

Today I was playing with a new plug-in for Aperture called Nik Silver Efex Pro. It's really if fun to use and it has many creative styles and tools to tone your B&W's. I think it's a little pricey, but it's also very cool. All the images started out as color.

Here's is a couple more from the shoot. I really like how the light can be made to wrap around the model. Keep in mind that these were shot in direct sunlight. The lower image was a test shot, but I really like the light in this one.

Taylor wanted sports looking images for her portfolio.....This was really fun to do, I learned a bunch from a few new friends about cross-lighting small strobes.  Taylor was great to work with.

Rider from the Harley Ride on Memorial Day. I wish you could read the patch on his jacket, it cracked me up. It's on of those little fun surprises you don't see when your shooting the image.

Memorial Day Harley Ride

Memorial Day Harley Ride. Over 8,000 Riders participated in the event. They road to Riverside National Cemetery from a local Harley shop in remembrance of our fallen solders. Cool to see them past by. It took 30 min's. for the rider to past by - very cool.
